Music Review: Crossroads to the Max!!!!!!!

This is a wonderful album and it caught Joni when she was still singing her confessional folk tunes to her long time fans but expanding out to reach new fans with her jazz-influenced songs. There is a LOT of introductions, pre-song rambling and general chatter in between the songs and it is totally edited from the CD. If you love Joni's enchanting speaking voice you will be disappointed in the CD version. If you can track down the original vinyl then the entire album will be included the way it was intended. "Rainy Night House" is so overwhelming on this album that the proper word to find is difficult. Spooky? Dark? One of her best recordings ever. The concert was recorded mostly at the old Universal Amphitheater and sounds perfect. I wish I could have been at this show. I have seen many shows at the old Amp when it was a open-air facility. They ruined it by putting a roof on it to rake in money year round. If you wanted to start a Joni collection, this would be a great place to start. Buy it and wear it out. She was one of a kind........
