Music Review: The Next Big Thing

This is sooo great: I was so terrified that this album would be really terrible, but I got it and I was thrilled. I LOVE every song on this album. Nick's voice dropped, which helped, and the songs aren't all peppy happy Disney stuff, though I do like Kids of the Future and Year 3000. The Jonas Brothers are really fantastic, and they'll just get better. They're amazing guitar players, and the songs are infectiously catchy, some of them faintly reminding me of Yellowcard and Fallout Boy. The two best songs ever by these guys are SOS and Hold On, not to mention that I love the videos.
1. SOS-If you watch MTV, you should recognize this song. Written by Nick after a bad breakup, this song has really fun guitar and will be ingrained in your memory forever if you hear it once. Impossible not to like. "Oooh, this is an SOS, don't want to second guess, this is the bottom line..."
2. Hold On-My personal favorite. Written for Disney Channel's "Johnny Kapahala: Back On Board", this song is all about persevering through heartbreak and remembering to live, love, and "Hold On" through good times and bad. "When you love someone and they break your heart, don't give up on love, have faith, restart..."
3.Goodnight and Goodbye:Kinda has an urgent, reggae-ish beat,definitely the most unique song on this album. Reminds me a little of a carnival ride...
"Hold on tight, it's a rollercoaster ride we're on..."
4.That's Just the Way We Roll: A fun song encouraging uniqueness and being yourself no matter what anyone else thinks."We are wild, we are free, we are more than you think, so call us freaks, but that's just the way we roll!"
5.Hello Beautiful: A pretty, sad ballad. The idea is that the girl moved away and the guy will never love anyone else but her. "Tonight, I'm gonna fly, 'cause I could go across the world and see everything and never be satisfied if I couldn't see those eyes..."
6.Still In Love With You:Infectiously upbeat. Written by Nick, also about a breakup. "But your smile still makes my heart sing another sad song, I can't forget it, won't regret it, 'cause I'm still in love with you."
7.Australia: A fairly random song about an Australian "dreamgirl". Sung primarily by Joe. Nick on the drums. "So I'll wait for her to come, she won't break my heart, 'cause I know she'll be from australia, she is so beautiful, she's my dreamgirl..."
8.Games: Awesome guitar (courtesy of Kevin). A punchy song about a guy being sick of a girl messing around with his heart. "Splitting apart, it's getting harder to tell what you want, I'm so bored with these games..."
9.When You Look Me in the Eyes: Originally a praise and worship song written by the JoBros, the lyrics have been changed to make it worthy for the "last dance" at a middleschool formal. To hear the Christian version of this song, go to Youtube. "When you look me in the eyes and tell me that you love me, everything's alright, when you're right here by my side."
10.Inseperable:Probably the most romantic song on the album, with the best instrumentals. A punchy and fast-paced but deep, and really incredible song that I think shows just how far the Jonas Brothers have come with their music. "Even when we're miles and miles apart, you're still holding on to my heart, I promise it will never be dark, I know we're inseperable."
11.Just Friends: A cute song that calls to mind your average episode of "Hannah Montana": it's about a guy who's got a huge crush on his best friend and is dying to tell her. A song about the typical drama that goes on in a middleschool hallway. No wonder it's sung by Nick. "I've been making lots of plans like a picket fence and a rose garden, I'll just keep on dreamin, keep on wishin, but it's cool that we're just friends..."
12.Hollywood: The Jonas Brothers' version of Pink's "Stupid Girl": their declaration that they're not gonna be dumb idiots like all the other celebrities out there. "You can try to break us and make us follow par, but the fire's in our hearts, reminisce on memories 'cause we're gone..."
13.Year 3000-The quintessential Jonas Brothers song. If you've ever seen Disney Channel, listened to RadioDisney, or even watched the 2006 Macy's Parade, you know this song. An absurd, entertaining, and totally bubblegum-pop song about going to the future. "I've been to the year 3000, not much has changed but they lived underwater, and your great great great granddaughter is doing fine..." This was their second big hit (after "Mandy" from their first album) and the song that launched the "Jonas craze" after it was promoted by Disney.
14.Kids of the Future: A remake of "Kids in America" adapted for the Disney film, "Meet the Robinsons". The lyrics are totally lame, but I like this better than the original song because the Jonas Brothers "rocked it up" considerably, lame lyrics or no.
