Although vocalese is Jon Hendricks' main claim to fame,
this album shows him as a jazz master that he is, genuine giant of modern jazz singing, with expressive hoarse voice, rhythmical flexibility, speed, harmonical imagination....
Joined by the brilliant bands led by Pony Poindexter (alto-sax), Wes Montgomery (guitar), the Adderley brothers (Cannonball on alto-sax, Nat on cornet), plus Gildo Mahones (p), Montgomery's brothers and others, Hendricks presides over an album that sounds very much as a spiritedn jam-session...
This seems to be a long awaited digital re-edition of an good old 1959 LP...
