Music Review: "JOHNNY HARTMAN, LIVE AND LOOSE !"

Bostons (Copley) WBUR's 1976 Remote from Club;Merry Go Round, with Radio Host;Tony Cinello and the Reggie Moore (Piano) trio with Alex Lane (Bass) Bill English (Drums).Hartman is having a good time flinging out those deep vocal notes at the audience, plus chatting with Tony and a patron thats a bit of a pest that Johnny handles with some funny put-downs.
I must have every recording of his, since I bought "From The Heart" ( First solo album) with the excellent Howard Mc Gee ( Trumpet). That Bethlehem
recording you can get with the other works he did on that label all in one package. The "Heart" and the Coltrane recordings are 5 Stars for me because of the choice of songs and the perfect in-tune singing of J.H. Most of his other recordings are 5 Stars in my opinion.
This CD has a FEW songs I'm not fond of, hence, the 4 Stars. Still I could say this CD is close to a 5 Star rating, how about 4 1/2 stars?
Bonus tracks include; a 1977 live Hartman performance in Japan with the wonderful pianist Roland Hanna and Bassist George Mraz which is equal to Hanna's Musical expertise. Just some of my favorite songs on this CD are:"Lush Life","Down in the Depths", "Little Girl Blue","Summertime", "Misty"
( J.H. tells an interesting story about the time He met Erroll Garner which had to do with this song.) Most of the other songs I like very much here.
This CD includes a 16 page Booklet with Libretto and information on Hartman's Musical History. There are 30 songs here. 121;39 of Johnny Hartman's vocal Magic ! ! !

Description of Boston Concert
Two CD set. While Johnny Hartman is considered by many to be one of the most gifted Jazz vocalists ever, his discography is surprisingly limited and he never gained the recognition he so justly deserved during his lifetime. His best-selling album was his celebrated 1963 collaboration with John Coltrane. The Boston concert presented here for the first time ever must be considered an essential addition to Johnny Hartman's discography. Taped from a radio broadcast at a Boston Jazz club called the Merry Go Round on February 24, 1976, this is the first known recording of Hartman since his 1973 album I've Been There. The next entry in his discography being his October 1977 live set at the Sometime Club in Tokyo.
