Music Review: Johnny Crawford's "Rumors" Still a Winner After 45 Years
Rating: 5 Stars
This is the third album for this former Mouseketeer and co-star (Mark McCain) of The Rifleman. While Johnny's first two albums were excellent, it's my opinion that he reached a high point with Rumors. Other than one up-tempo song, the other ten are smooth, mellow ballads sung with a voice of youthful innocence, romanticism, and passion. Instrumental backing is pleasant to the ears with great vocals and harmonies. Johnny's voice is positively angelic and genuinely emotes the highs and lows of teenage love. As I recall, three songs were quite popular - the title song, "Rumors," "Devil or Angel" and "Lonesome Town" but every other song on this album is equally memorable. There isn't one bad track on this CD. I encourage prospective buyers to give a listen to the amazon sampler. I believe you'll agree this is quality music. And for Johnny Crawford fans and those who grew up in the 60s, a very pleasant journey down memory lane.
