Music Review: Lennon Legacy

Hard to believe this year will mark the 30th anniversary of when the world lost one of the deepest artists in pop music, John Lennon. During his reign with The Beatles, he helped make so many delightful classics like Yellow Submarine, and Twist & Shout. But on his own, he made some of the most dominant and strong staples in music, that've continued to touch the way the world has shown through his eyes with love. He had his trials, from the possibility from being deported from the U.S., from being a sign of abolishment, after saying that The Beatles were more popular than Jesus in the 60's. But through it all, and even after the day he was sadly murdered, John Lennon has been one of the most influential artists of all time. Now, a new hits collection shows what made John Lennon so popular, and why his songs are still staples of our lives.
Power To The People: The Hits, is the latest hits album, from John Lennon. The collection, is a simple re-introduction to John's classic solo songs, that seperated him from his Beatles work, and made him a icon. The songs have all been remastered, and show a new beginning for John's impassionate voice. Most of John's classic standards and staples are here including his definitive Imagine, the intimate Whatever Gets You Through The Night (with Elton John whom backed Lennon up on the song back in 1974,) his classic cover of Stand By Me, and tracks from his final record Double Fantasy like Watching The Wheels and the somber Woman. The collection of songs remain a constant that've kept Lennon's legacy more than alive, but there were a few songs that honestly were overshadowed from the album like the deep & dark Working Class Hero and Nobody Told Me to just name a few.
Despite a few overshadowed songs, Power To The People: The Hits remains a mostly solid hits collection that showcased what made John Lennon a real one of a kind. While it isn't as strong as John's past greatest hits records like Working Class Hero from 2005 or Lennon Legend released back in 1997, it is still a strong re-introduction to why John Lennon was so special. It honestly is never going to be possible to celebrate what would've been his 70th birthday, without grieveing the sadness of the day he was murdered so brutally 30 years ago. I honestly have to say I was born on the 4 month anniversary the day he died, and truthfully I've never known a singer whom was so brutally honest about his life, and his legacy. John Lennon was that one in a million, and he will always be missed.
