Music Review: John Denver Highlights Revisited

This is a career-spanning project which includes versions of songs re-recorded later in John Denver's life, such that a more unified sense of an album results than is found in a typical collection of songs recorded at different times with a range of supporting musicians, studios and producers involved. In this regard "Purely JD" is something like his "Earth Songs," though the latter is more dramatically orchestrated.
"Purely JD" is drawn from a three-CD import set titled "Greatest Hits." Those choosing the one- or two-disc "Purely JD" versions now may subsequently want to pick up the three-CD set's lovely Foxfire Suite, Sing Australia, Stonehaven Sunset, and other rarer gems of John's career. Those seeking the studio versions of the songs most often heard on the radio will need to turn instead to the one-CD "Greatest Hits."

Rocky Mountain High in 2008 with this import of Purely John Denver. His career soar to great heights and his songs remain a window into his gentle soul. John Denver was an American folk singer-songwriter and folk rock musician who was one of the most popular artists of the 1970s. He recorded and released some 300 songs, about half of which he had composed, and was named Poet Laureate of Colorado in 1977. Denver's songs were suffused with a deep and abiding love of the natural world. Songs such as "Take Me Home, Country Roads" (1971), "Leaving on a Jet Plane", "Calypso" (1975), "Thank God I'm a Country Boy", and "Rocky Mountain High" (1973) are popular worldwide.
