Music Reviews of Hedwig And The Angry Inch: Original Cast RecordingMusic Review: A tour-de-force for Stephen Trask and John Cameron Mitchell. Rating: 5 Stars
I skipped this show in both New York and L.A. What was I thinking?! I completely understand the many comments here about being "addicted" to this CD... I borrowed it from a friend out of curiosity, and I can't get enough! It's monumental! I would follow writer Trask and performer Mitchell anywhere! (Not to mention Hedwig herself, of course!) Turn it up loud and you'll want to conquer the world! :)
Music Review: hedwig re visits punk ny's roots Rating: 1 Stars
Hedwig reminds us og the original transgender punk star, Jayne(formerly Wayne) County, who lived in Germany, had to prostitute to make ends meet, and claims to have been an influence on a young David Bowie, who pretends Wayne does not exist once he becomes a stadium filling star. If you love Hedwig, check out Jayne County's 1995 auto bio "Man Enough To Be A Woman" from Serpent's Tail Publishing.
Music Review: Infectious gender-bending alt-rock opera! Rating: 5 Stars
I haven't seen the show, but I'm addicted to its music. It's a genre-hopping musical kaleidoscope with every song a distinct highlight. The Long Grift is an exquisite melody, and Midnight Radio captures the essence of Ziggy Stardust/Dr. Frankenfurter chic. In many ways, this ranks up there with The Who's Tommy concept album and Pink Floyd's The Wall in terms of sheer emotional bombast. I truly recommend!
Music Review: Hedwig won't be an internationally ignored rock star. Rating: 5 Stars
After listeners hear this intelligent, bittersweet rock opera, Hedwig will no longer be "an internationally ignored rock star" as s/he is described in the play, "Hedwig and the Angry Inch." What a marvelous CD-- in one cut Plato's Symposium is the song lyric subject!! The show is still at the Jane Street Theater so catch it if you can after you hear the disk. You won't regret it.
