Music Review: A Big Bargain Box of BIS Banzai Bach

These recordings are the first 10 discs of Suzuki's highly successful Bach Cantata series which has, in the eyes of nearly all professional reviewers, jumped to the top of the tree in an increasingly crowded field. You can look up individual reviews but you find that they consistently praise the painstaking research, idiomatic playing, faultless ensemble, great soloists, demonstration sound and a real sense of the spiritual. So exciting and somewhat surreal to think that they would have walked out of the recording venue into the bustle of Kobe to eat their lunchtime sushi and noodles.
I will only add that unlike most box sets, this contains the 10 original booklets from the individual releases. The contents of these will inform your listening and heighten your enjoyment. This makes it a real bargain. Thanks to my wife for slipping this one in the Christmas stocking.
