For admirers of Korjus who already have her recordings on CD the welcome surprise is the first publication of the never-released version of "Ach, ich liebte" from Mozart's Entführung aus dem Serail. Why it was withheld I cannot fathom; it is at least as well-sung and recorded as "Martern aller Arten," which is truncated and lacking in trills. Also, this third Preiser volume gathers the RCA versions of the Great Waltz songs, the eight Strauss Waltzes from her two post-war albums, and songs and arias, in different arrangements, from her unfortunate Mexican film, her only other on-screen appearance. Caballeria del Imperio attempts, and miserably fails, to recreate for her similar scenes from The Great Waltz. Her other film credit, the Student von Prag, was dubbing the singing voice for an actress. "End of the line?" refers to the remaining existing live Korjus recordings which deserve CD publication: some excellent radio performances, including otherwise unheard material, and the startling Liebestod with the Santa Monica Symphony.
