Music Review: So Close So Far Away

The quality is always there wtih any Joan release but I will have to agree with other reviewers about the quantity. No liner notes and not all her hits are included. Starting with Bad Reputation where is Make Believe or Summertime Blues. She should have done an anthology like the Runaways that is soon going to be released. Songs from movies that is hard to find ie Love Stinks from the Mr Wrong soundtrack. From the Japanese only release Season of the Witch, Right in the Middle, Kiss on the Lips, Science Fiction (from the Rocky Horror Picture SHow). From Good Music--Good Music, Black Leather, You Got Me Floatin, This Means War. From the Hit List: Dirty Deeds, Roadrunner, Love Hurts, I Wanna Be Your Dog (phenomenal version live). From Notorious: Backlash (included), Don't Surrender (tribute to Jill Ireland), The Only Good Thing, Ashes in the Wind. From Pure and SImple: Go Home, As I Am, Hostility (only released on the cassette version), Spinster (Joan's ultimate them imho). Instead we get Activity Grrl one of the weakest songs of her career but still being forced down our throats. Also should have included World Of Denial from Fit to be Tied. From her latest release Sinner: love the inclusion of ACDC and Androgynous but could have included Riddles and Change the World or my fave Everyone Knows. From her fan released cd I Left My Heart in San Francisco, Unfinished Business. And why could she not have included anything from the Evil Stig cd I would have recommended: Last to Know, Whirlwind, Another Shot of Whiskey, and Second Skin.
Two cd set seems to be a misnomer since you can fit 20 songs or more on a single cd and she could have. Hopefully if the Runaways movie is a success Joan will be putting out a box set which includes rarities and hard to find songs. Oh well and hopefully later this year she will put out a new cd I really dont think it should be another 10 years for an American release of new material.

I was reminded that I Wanna Be Your Dog was on Up Your Alley which I had forgotten to include in my dream list of Joan material. Of course I Hate Myself for Loving should be included with any of her hits collection or a future boxet I'd also include Little Liar, Back It Up and the forementioned I wanna be your dog.
Another side note I would like to add it does seem to be a bit of an overkill marketing strategy to put out a movie, a book, joan's greatest hits, the runaway anthology and the movie soundtrack. Sure its about time. However spreading out the releases might have been a better idea.
