Music Review: Age related 3 chord rock.
Rating: 5 Stars
Sinner is yet another CD brilliantly done in her long line of quality CDs. Other reviews may be mixed regarding this CD but if one approaches this CD with the mindset of Joan being 46 in 2006 when it was released one will get an idea of how she brings her punk style to songs with more bi-sexual, social and political commentary than her songs done in her past which had more to do with teen rebellion, thrill seeking, partying and relationships.
The 3 chord rock style is there except on the songs Androgynous, Watersign, and Baby Blue. Androgynous is kind of folksy, Watersign is kind of like her "Bring It On Home" song from her Flashback CD very melodic like ocean waves. Baby Blue the guitar riff almost sounds like a rip from Alice Cooper's "No More Mister Nice Guy" but the melody doesn't get too much beyond that.
Bad Time seems like they've been in the recording studio wayyy too long and sounds tired and uninspirng.
The rest totally rock and are in keeping with Joan's style. It is just as she progresses on in her career she puts her 3 chord punk to more age relevant lyrics.
If you are in your teens & 20s I may suggest her earlier work or the Donnas. For everyone else this CD should be considered a collector's item.
