Music Reviews of Jimmy Eat World (Bleed American)

Music Review: My personal favorite
Rating: 5 Stars

If i am able to listen to an album all the way through, well than thats obviously a great album for me. Jimmy Eat World's self-titled album is one of them. This is my favorite album by these guys. they are totally awesome. I first found out about these guys a while back completely by accident. I was listening to one of my sister's "mix" cds and their one song that really got my attention. it later turned out to be Lucky Denver Mint. after i heard that song i new i had to get a cd by these guys. shortly after i heard that song, thier new album Futures came out, so I asked for it for my birthday and i got it. a few months later i got the self-titled album (the one i'm reviewing now) and just last night i got Clarity, one of their older records. Out of the three, their self-titled record is my favorite, 5 out of 5. Clarity is my second favorite. Its slower than Futures or the self-titled but its still good, 4.5 out of 5. Futures is actually my least favorite album. For what it is, its not all bad, but i think they could have done a little better, 4 out of 5 stars. Overall, Jimmy Eat World is an awesome band, in fact their probably my favorite band right now. They play an great variety of rock music whether it'd be hard rock (Bleed American, Sweetness), pop rock (The Middle, A Praise Chorus) or your acoustic ballads (Hear You Me, My Sundown). Overall, Jimmy Eat World is one of the best bands around today. if you don't any records by them, at least get this one. you won't regret it.

Music Review: Straight through the heart
Rating: 2 Stars

You know the classic stories: a guy finds a letter from his lover in their house, and it says that she can't be the person she was for him anymore and she's moving on to bigger things. Then he sees her on T.V., being wooed by hundreds of suitors, adored by everybody, and he sits there -- angry because the person everybody is loving is not the person he was in love with. The person he loved is now dead and gone, and what he sees on T.V. is the "shell" that was once his all. No one is concerned with who she used to be. If they find out about her glamourless old life, they mock it. No one is concerned with those she left behind to claim her 15 minutes of fame. And those she left behind watch the old home movies, look at the photo albums, and remember the times when she was a good person.

I, much like many other people, felt the same way when this album was released. "Hello, we're Jimmy Eat World, and we're more concerned with money and prestige than self-respect, artistic expression, and fan loyalty. We named this album 'Bleed American' and later re-named it 'Jimmy Eat World,' but understand that for a long time we considered naming it 'Giving our true fans the finger.'"

This album gets two stars from me because "Hear You Me" is actually a pretty darn good song and "Bleed American" isn't too bad. The rest is the biggest travesty ever to be committed by a band of this type. And if you like this album and this review angers you . . . well, good.

Music Review: One of the great albums of last year.
Rating: 5 Stars

Like some people, my first taste of Jimmy Eat World was through The Middle. Although at first it wasn't my thing, I found myself liking it. So I went uptown and bought it cause I'm need of liking some new bands so I bought it uptown(it still has Bleed American on the cover). Overall, this is such a great album. It seems a lot more poppier than Clarity(which I also bought).

Bleed American: very guitar driven. good riff too. 9/10
A Praise Chorus: I love the "crimson and clover" part. 8/10
The Middle: the couple times 9/10 after a LOT of repeated listens 7/10
Your House: mainly acoustic with some added elements. good song. 8/10
Sweetness: mixed bag- it's a awesome song but the original that started with the guitar(this one starts with vocals) was much better. 7.5/10
Hear You Me: slower number. It's such a melancholy and great track. 9/10
If You Don't, Don't: rock edged song. It's pretty good. 8/10
Get It Faster: this one is actually pretty catchy. 9/10
Cautioners: slow song. it's good but not the better of the slow ones. 7.5/10
The Authority Song: good song to blast in your car. 9/10
My Sundown: another melancholy song but my favorite of them. The song seems to be about suicide so the song cuts off right at the end. (Dream Theater's Pull Me Under had this too.)

It's a great album. It's a good song to blast while you're driving or playing sports. Not as good as Clarity but it's a great album.

Music Review: Hip-pop lover, but loooooves this cd
Rating: 5 Stars

Okay, I'm your typical black guy that listens to R&B and rap and all, and I love them. ..but for real, this Jimmy Eat World CD blew me away and still remains in my cd changer after months and months. It's sensational blend of hard guitar banging and "by-the-fireplace" slow songs really conform to any mood you are in. My favorite "hard" songs are "The Middle, Sweetness, and Get if Faster." With Get if Faster, I love the build up from a quiet strum bass to ecstatic metal jamming in the chorus. The words, although harsh, are very idealistic of how we truly feel when we're bitter at someone we love or someone who's hurt us. As many of their lyrics posses, Jimmy Eat World speaks words that are true to the heart, deep, and ones that we can identify with. But amidst the hard rock, my favorites are the slow song. Every morning, I wake up to "Hear You Me" on my cd player alarm. It's sad (cause it's about death), but just listening to it makes me feel relaxed and really puts me in "think mode." A place I love to be. Lastly, "My Sundown" soothes my thoughts and just seems to smoothen things out for me. A very quiet song, with a profound message of how much people really care. It allows me to think deeper and reflect on whatever's going on. Anyway, I hope this review has truly helped. . .and while I stay true to R&B, I'll forever buy Jimmy Eat World, can't wait for the next one.

Music Review: Matt, lay off the drugs!

They're just not good for you. If you want to criticise the modern rock scene, go ahead. You're just picking on the wrong band for all the wrong reasons. This cd is not clarity, but it's still better than all of the popular music scene. You've got a singer not afraid to lay it all out there lyrically accompanied by musicians with an incredible feel for music. It's hard to describe, you've either got it or you don't. This band has it, in fact they're my favorite band so i'm inclined to say it's unparalleled. If you're looking at this review it's either that you own this cd or maybe you're just checking out cds. If that's the case I suppose you've heard the hit songs "Middle," "Praise Chorus" and "Sweetness." The rest of the songs aren't as poppy, which is generally what I like more from them. That doesn't take away from the other few catchy songs like "Authority Song" or "If You Don't, Don't" though. In fact those are a couple of my favorites on the cd anyway. Just be sure to check out "My Sundown" and "Your House." There's really something for everyone on here, i'm just kind of shocked when I see anyone give this a "1." Open up your ears, it doesn't matter what other people think about this band, it's gotta be your own decision. I have a hard time believing anyone could honestly rate this or any other Jimmy Eat World album lower than a "3."
