Music Reviews of Experience Hendrix: The Best Of Jimi HendrixMusic Review: Too few late stuff Rating: 2 Stars
I think that artist whose all albums are good does not need any collections. They are just for money making purpose. Never buy collection if the artist has good albums to offer.
My major complaint is that there are too few late stuff. From unfinished album there should be Freedom, Angel, Room Full of Mirrors, Ezy Ryder, Drifting and In From the Storm. Maybe Stepping Stone too. Dolly Dagger and Night Bird Flying that are included, are not so good as those tracks I listed above.
Of course, to make album more comprehensive, there could have been some Band of Gypsys track in the end. And why not something like Pali Gap? Also Burning of the Midnight Lamp and Long Hot Summer Night (both from Electric Ladyland) would have been better than some tracks included - not to mention the title track from Electric Ladyland, in which Jimi proves how great singer he can occasionally be.
Music Review: The Wind Cries Jimi. Rating: 4 Stars
This is almost identical to the older "Ultimate Experience" collection, but for some reason that's out of print. Some songs missing here are "Burning Of The Midnight Lamp", "Highway Chile", and "Long Hot Summer Night". But in exchange this has "Bold As Love", "Freedom", and the excellent "If 6 Was 9". Of course this also includes "Hey Joe", "Fire", "Castles Made Of Sand", and the classic "Voodoo Child (slight return)", among many others. My two favorites would probably be "Little Wing" and "The Wind Cries Mary". The only track I really miss is "May This Be Love". Otherwise, this is about as good as one disc could be. The best thing about this "Best of", is that it'll go great with your "Eric Clapton", or "Lenny Kravitz" cd's.

Music Review: Hate me for it but someone had to say it Rating: 2 Stars
I don't think anyone can deny that Jimi Hendrix was a great guitarist. But musical prowess alone does not a good album make, y'know what I'm saying? In my opinion, people were so caught up with Jimi's talent as a musician that they failed to notice (on the most part) that his talents as a song-writer were very simple. Much of these songs are very standard and merely impress with Jimi soloing over them. Add to that that much of what Jimi did was improvisation with little direction and what is left is really rather boring. Purple Haze and Voodoo Child are great songs, but the fact that many people have only heard of them (they wouldn't hear names like If 6 Was 9 or The Wind Cries Mary and think "Aaah! Jimi Hendrix") may explain why.I know I've done little here except make a load of people angry but I'm not afraid to speak out against the greats if I don't like them.
Music Review: I Know It's Only Rock N' Roll, But I Like IT! Rating: 5 Stars
As a diehard Hendrix fan... like who isn't, I have to confess I felt that some of Jimi's best songs are conspicuously missing from this album. For example, I can live without "Dolly Dagger" but not without "Spanish Castle Magic"! I wish they had consulted me first when picking songs... but, oh well, heavy sigh, they did not. Still, even with its organizational faults, Jimi still rocks.
This is a classic CD; I carry it in my car at all times. I know I am in the universal flow when I turn on the radio and find myself catching the next Jimi song on the radio waves. (It's called hanging ten on the Tao.)
There are some things you simply cannot get enough of, and Jimi Hendrix is one of them. If you are not going to sit down and burn your own customized CD with your favorite Mr. Jimi songs, then get this album. It is the next best thing.
