Canadian Music Store Music Reviews of Complete Recorded Works (1928)Music Review: The Highly Enjoyable Jim Jackson
This is a highly enjoyable album of Jim Jackson's latter work. Unfortunately, it is made up exclusively of Pre-Blues material, thus lacking any early Blues songs. This is not a bad thing, as Pre-Blues music is very interesting to listen to. This album reveals that Jackson was much more of a songster than a full-fledged Blues artist. I prefer the first volume of his material on Document, but this isn't a bad album, by any means. The first two and last two songs on this disc are my personal favorites. It's wonderful to hear him play "Hesitation Blues" and "St. Louis Blues", songs that must be at least 100 years old.
