Music Review: Great Music, Impossible DRM--Don't buy for ipod

Let me start by saying that I own every Jim Brickman album, have seen him in concert many times and consider myself a huge fan. With that said I won't buy another CD of his if it contains the same content protection. I am highly tech savvy and this disc has Digital Rights Management (DRM) on it that make it near impossible to utilize with a computer. You must utilize the software on the CD to play the CD, rip music to your computer and the like. It is pathetic software; you have no control over the bit rate, music codec or any other option that even the most basic user would want for that matter. The software customer service website (http://www.sunncomm.com/support/sonybmg/) admits that you cannot utilize the songs on an ipod, due to the fact that, "Apple's proprietary technology doesn't support secure music formats other than their own, and therefore the secure music file formats on this disc can't be directly imported into iTunes or iPods." Unless your mp3 player supports DRM, ipod or not, it will almost certainly will not work. When I pay $15 for a CD, I expect to be able to use the content to my heart's desire and the tactics employed by the Label are Gestapo in nature. It is protection like this that leads to music piracy in the first place. In short, unless you only want to play this on your home audio system, don't buy this CD. Once I was finally able to play the music (using the propriety software), it was on par with his usual stuff. Not quite as good as Picture This, but it is a good album nonetheless.
