Music Review: Powerful

This album is beautiful on so many different levels. Jill has such a calming and beautiful voice and her song writing/guitar playing skills are not to far from perfect. The album boasts a variety of wanderfully flowing easy listning rock songs, mixing vivacious piano playing with first rate acoustic guitar. The songs vary from upbeat feelgood songs such as 'Lift my eyes' to more deep and thoughtful ballards like 'Broken' and 'Free'. The lyrics are so beautifully honest and focuses a lot on how much we need to rely on God especially in the tough times. The style of the album is very similar to Avril Lavene's first album, but the feel of it is much deeper. Overall, it has to be one of the best sing along albums ever and when listened to properly, can really touch you. A worthwhile purchase!

British Columbia's Jill Paquette's self-titled debut is as warm and inviting as it is refreshing, particularly when the young French Canadian singer-songwriter calls upon her Native American ancestry to spin up lyrical imagery that so aptly captures the intimacy between created and creator. And while acoustic guitar and piano weave Paquette?s musical tapestry, she is much more than your typical, cookie-cutter folkie. Paquette ratchets up the rock on such tracks as "Not The Only One" or "Forget," drawing comparisons to Sheryl Crow with their roots-rock sound. Paquette?s guitar prowess shines bright on "There to Here," as does her ear for the melodic chorus on "Lift My Eyes" and "So Close," both of which are reminiscent of Nichole Nordeman and Jennifer Knapp. Credit for this beautiful-sounding debut should also go to production group of Eldon Winter, Stephen J. Rendall, and Phil Madeira, who build the album around Paquette?s songwriting skills. --Michael Lyttle
