Music Review: "e;Two brilliant films on World War II...Goldsmith's score"e;

Best Film was "Patton", Best Director Franklin J. Schaffner, Best Actor George C. Scott, the film also won for Best Editing, Best Sound, Best Original Screenplay ~ seven Academy Awards in all...the score was nominated, but did not win...what a shame, as the "MAIN TITLE" is one of the most recognizable march themes ever written. Goldsmith's orchestral score was simply awesome, fantastic and overpowering, gave the story a rich textured-fabric, as only Goldsmith can.Second half of this CD is ~ "Tora! Tora! Tora!", this film was a joint collaboration between the United States and Japan in production. Goldsmith blends western and old world culture themes into one powerful cue, heavy brass mixed with counter-balanced percussion, the result is an epic "MAIN TITLE"...many stands outs on this score ~ "PRE-FLIGHT", reminicient of "Star Trek" cues ~ "IMPERIAL PALACE", our composer transports you within the picture of an ancient palace ~ next a more subdued theme "END TITLE", use of brass, percussion and original sounding intruments, builds to an ultra climatic peak, leaving you with this question...why did all this have to be?
Must mention the people responsible ~ Robert Townson (producer), Varese Sarabande and Jerry Goldsmith (composer, conductor and producer) who guided some of the best musicians around today...the Royal Scottish National Orchestra...outstanding performance by one and all!
