Music Review: Second CD from jennifer y los Jetz

If you like the golden oldies, feel good happy songs, you'll love this CD. Pretty much every other song is a re-make of an oldies tune, except for "Corazoncito, Ven a Mi", which is a re-make of the 80's hit, "SuperFreak". That particular song has a good sound to it, and Pena brings out a more sassy, almost nasal tone, mimicking the former version. best songs: "Corazoncito, Ven a mi","Fallaste Tu", "Yo te Vi", and "Si no me Quieres Dimelo". Suprisingly enough, it seems as if Pena has toned down her vocals a bit since "Dulzura".

Description of Jennifer
Jennifer Peņa delivers on the promise of her 1996 debut album with this spirited sophomore effort that blends lilting cumbia rhythms and pop classics. Backed by her polished band, Los Jetz, Peņa sounds confident and focused on clever cumbia versions of the girl group and soul classics "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?" and "Just One Look." Peņa even manages a heated dance/rock version of Rick James's "Super Freak" featuring a guitar solo by Chris Perez. It's clear that Peņa is being prepped for international markets, but she is equally effective on the more traditional Tejano tunes "Solo Por Ti," "Que Paso," and "Si No Me Quieres, Dimelo." It's the same double musical life that, sadly, her role model Selena never had the chance to fully enjoy. --Joey GuerraInternational CDs
