Music Review: This meditation system makes some strange claims.

First off, these are some very relaxing cds. Got them as a gift, and i'm very happy with the gift, suited me perfectly. I don't relax well, think too much, etc.If you're like me, and think too much, don't read the booklet that comes with the cds. They make some strage and false claims.
The most bizzare and glaringly false claim is that, "These recordings also use a nature sound not found anywhere else. In 1989 Dr. Thompson received from NASA recordings of space sounds taken from the Voyager spacecraft as it passed the outer planets of our solar system--Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune."
Well, I'm sure Voyager was recording plenty of stuff, but they sure weren't "sounds". Hollywood movies aside, there is no sound in outer space. There is no air in outer space, so there are no sounds to be recorded. Perhaps Dr. Thompson did receive sound recordings from Voyager, but you don't need a cd to hear silence.
The second odd claim is that, "Research has shown that theta states of mind can be induced through hearing sound pulses that match the speed of theta brainwaves (8-3.5 Hz). Using this scientifically tested principle, Dr. Thompson has built special theta frequency pulses into every sound track."
First off, no humans can hear sounds below 20 Hz, most ears don't even hear that low. So, even if these sounds are on the cds, you aren't hearing them. But, maybe they aren't there to be heard but instead act on your body, like the loud thundering at race car track that you feel vibrating your insides. Perhaps, but you don't have speakers that can produce sounds that low. Even most high-end sub-woofers don't go below 30hz. Some of the huge monsters in movie theaters can get down to 15-20 Hz, but unless you spent 50k on you home theater system, your speakers don't get that low.
Not saying the sounds aren't encoded on the cd, but your speakers aren't reproducing them. And if you know of speakers that make sounds as low as 3.5-8 Hz, i'm impressed.
That said, very chill cds. But obviously false claims like these sorta make me think this Dr. Thompson is a quack.
Music Review: The Insights Of A Soul

I love Jeffrey Thompson's CDs.
I am able to put them into my walkman, put on my headphones and after a few deep breaths in and a few deep breaths out, I'm in a place that is still, quiet and completely open to the inner wisdom that is nestled deep within my mind, heart and soul.
One of the insights I got from this particular CD is that there is no such thing as "human potential". Now that may sound negative, but hear me out. The thing we call human...these clods of clay...this skin encapsulated ego is not really who and what we are. What we really are is 99.9% invisible and the other 00.1% is also pretty much empty space, as well. So who and what are we? We are Spirit...we are the Unmanifest made manifest... we are the Invisible made Visible. There is no such thing as "human potential" because we are Potential Itself.
This music can take a day that may seem ordinary in every respect and transform it in a most remarkable way. Of course, it's not the music that is really doing this, but something that is within me and around me is always and in all ways trying to get me to tap into something deeper...something higher...something that is boundless, formless, and yet very, very real. I am going to try and stay away from traditional labels because all too often we get hung up on labels and names and we forget the essence behind the label.
If you are a seeker of wisdom, of Truth then I would highly suggest these CDs. If you are looking to relax and de-stress, again, I would highly recommend these CDs. Believe me, I really had no intention of getting on a "Spiritual Path" until that fateful day in my first year of college when someone handed me a "loaded" brownie...
But now that I am on this path, I can clearly see how everything is Spirit and Spirit is everything and these CDs will help you gain a deeper awareness that you are an aspect of the Great Unknown...

Music Review: Very Effective!

One of the other reviewers agreed that the CD was very effective, but concluded that Dr. Jeffrey Thompson was a "quack" because the reviewer didn't understand how stereo speakers could possibly reproduce the very low frequencies for Theta: 5-7 CPS. The problem is that the reviewer was ignorant of the technology used by Dr. Thompson, which is only briefly referred to in the materials. Dr. Thompson utilizes a technology similar to that of the Monroe Institute, who has called it "Hemi-synch". The concept is that sounds are played on both the left and right stereo channels, and are electronically modified so that they are out of synch by the frequency you are trying to achieve in the brain...6 CPS, for example, if you want Theta brainwaves. This accomplishes two things: 1. It synchronizes the two hemispheres of the brain (a very good thing) and 2. It generates a 6 CPS pulse, which tends to entrain the brainwaves to that same frequency. This is a very, very effective technique, as is demonstrated by the effectiveness of the Theta Meditation System. I highly recommend these CDs for people who wish to attain the Theta state for relaxation or for personal metaphysical exploration. This is a proven technology, and far more effective than simple "New Age" relaxation music, since this technology directly drives the brain to create the frequencies desired.Music Review: silent tears... music for the soul

I love Dr. T's CD's ..i started with the Awakened Mind, and loved it so much that i simply couldn't pull myself away to try the others..i eventually did and i find the Awakened Mind and the Theta the most helpful to go into a very deep meditative state. As a matter of fact i bought many of the others but only listened to them once..the two i mentioned are the only two that work for me.
With both I go immediately into a deep theta level within a few minutes.. The one thing i haven't heard mentioned here is that with the Theta CD, i am in a meditative state when i would all of a sudden I notice tears..i call them silent tears, they come streaming down my cheeks, they are not related to any emotion..more of a deep cellular level healing. Theta is the healing level .. i found this remarkable...i only know i am tearing because i feel them on my cheek. I purposefully do not call it crying because it isn't.
i also now can go to Bookstores where they have music you can listen to and i listen for just a few moments and i wait for the tears to come..I believe that is the entrainment part.. i then know that that particular music is good for my soul. The last one that happened with was The Power of Beethoven.
I am in awe of these CD's and the wonderful place they take me to...give them a try!!! i HIGHLY reccommend them~~~
Music Review: From a Christian POV

I have the tracks saved on my laptop and on my MP3 player. I'm not into Hindu meditation or spirituality, I'm a Christian, but I heard the music at my massage therapist's office, and really liked it. It has an ethereal, joyful, almost playful and childlike quality that is very soothing and restorative. I don't understand the physics behind the 'entrainment' thing, but I enjoy listening to the whole CD, and find myself feeling more calm and renewed when I do. Music has the power to touch our emotions, and this music has and does a lot of good. I don't meditate with it, because I don't meditate like that, but I play it when I'm home and have a few minutes of sedentary work. I found that it was less effective without the headphones. From a Christian POV, it is not just spritually harmless, but physically and mentally beneficial. You don't get the full benefit from the sound samples. If you have a lot of busyness and stress in your life, this CD may help you feel less agitated. I haven't tried the other CDs, but am fixing to buy the Delta Sleep System because I'm having trouble sleeping through the night. I tried sleeping with the Theta Meditation System, but there were some parts that woke me up. Nonetheless, I felt more rested the next morning than I normally do.
