Music Reviews of Mystery White BoyMusic Review: Best Live Album Out Rating: 5 Stars
This is the best live album I know of. It is one of the best albums period that I know of. Every song is captivating. At 78 or so minutes for 12 songs, each are epics. And you must listen to them all. I wish I could write more. I guess I'm not a very good music critc. All I know is I absolutely love 'Grace', so on the same day I bought 'Mystery White Boy' and 'Sketches for my Sweetheart the Drunk'. And both move me so deeply. You can feel the emotion dripping from each note. And I firmly believe, even if they don't buy it, everyone should hear either 'Grace' or 'Mystery White Boy' to hear what music really is.
Music Review: Bittersweet Rating: 4 Stars
With respect to the album, it is a great collection of Jeff's songs, as well as interpretations of great songs, such as Leonard Cohen and the Smiths's I Know its Over. Like a previous reviewer, its unfortunate that the sound quality doesn't do Jeff's voice justice, it still should not deter listeners from picking this album up. Each song displays Jeff's incredible voice and amazing operatic range. His live performances is truly a marvel and the band is nothing short of genius. That is the sweetness, but the bitter is that Jeff is gone, but I am thankful for being able to listen to what he has left us.
Music Review: Jeff Buckley Live = Inspiration Rating: 5 Stars
Mystery White Boy, is an incredible album containing live performances from the tour baring the same name. Songs such as "What Will You Say" and "Mojo Pin" are slow burners that explode into an emotion that not only haunts but inspires you to tap into your own truth. Jeff Buckley's voice was one that could echo all the sentiments that one goes through in a life time but implodes during this hour plus set into startling falsettos and glorious cresendos essentially creating a sound that is nothing more than life itsself. This album is only a testiment to the genuis that is Jeff Buckley.
Music Review: I'm an idiot Rating: 5 Stars
I lived in NYC while Jeff Buckley had a weekly gig at a club that fit like 50 people or something, and I never went. What an idiot.
Mystery White Boy is a great introduction to Jeff Buckley as the complete musician, not just the guy who sings ballads. The first time I heard What Will You Say, it blew my mind and woke me up to how truly incredible Buckley really was. The guy could go from making chicks cry with Hallelujah to making dudes mosh with his rockout version of Eternal Life.
This album is amazing, and only people who write in ALL CAPS don't like it.
Music Review: Reasons to buy this album. Rating: 4 Stars
It's not Grace, one of the best albums ever made, so it doesn't get five stars. Besides, four is pretty damn good. A lot of live albums have bad suond quality- but these sound good enough to be found on a studio album. That's one of the reasons to buy this album. Another reason is that each track is beautiful, not one track to skip through. Another reason would be that it's a Jeff Buckley album. It's nothing like the Sin-e EP, which was slow and acoustic and soft and just not long enough. This album shows the rocking side of Jeff. I'd say it gets 4 and a half stars.
