Music Review: The Grand Inquisitor - Rates Jeff's Brilliant Live Album

This is a 5 Star live album that demonstrates once and for all that JEFF BECK is the Greatest Electric Guitar Player EVER! I have witnessed in concert just about every great guitarist out there ( even the obscure ones like Roy Buchanan who Jeff Beck dedicated " Cause We've Ended As Loves " to ), in every style (heck, I have seen Roy Clark), and many of those guitarists in different stages of their careers. This live album catches the best of them all in his finest form ( I have seen Jeff perform live nine times - 1981, 1986, 1990, 1995, 1999, 2001, 2003, and 2006 twice )!!! Listen to these songs and take note of his delicate touch, his change of tones ( without a row of pedals - it's all in his fingers ), his unbelievable use of the " wammy bar ", his technical proficiency, and his musical fusion of styles. There are a few songs that I wish were on this record. On his " Jeff Beck Official Bootleg live " are the musical gems " Star Cycle " and " Somewhere Over the Rainbow ", while " Seasons ", " Goodbye Pork Pie Hat ( in it's entirety ) " and " Freeway Jam ( which Beck says he hates to play because it sounds like an Irish Jig) are found on " Jeff Beck Live at B.B. King Blues Club ". I am so " sick " of hearing about Jimi Hendrix ( and listening to him )! His legend has out grown the actual person he was and his ability to play the guitar. To be blunt ( but truthful ), Hendrix was just another junkie who happen to be an awesome guitar player - ONE of the BEST to EVER LIVE! He was, however, weak and as a result died by ingesting the drug of his choice, overdosing, and choking to death on his own vomit! Jimi's death was not tragic - it was pathetic. Randy Roads, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Michael Hedges, Duane Allman, and Rory Gallagher's deaths were tragic because they were victims of circumstance. The " guitar community " still looks upon Hendrix as the greatest guitarist ever; however, there is another guitarist who can play guitar at a level that transcends the notes that are offered by the fretboard and his NAME is JEFF BECK!!! Could of been ... should of been - people always talk about where Jimi would have taking the electric guitar if he had lived. The point is moot...he's DEAD. Besides, his guitar playing could have just as easily artistically and technically stagnated just like so many other 60's guitar heros.
If you want to hear the ultimate Guitar God, - the Guitarist's Guitarist- then purchase this CD and bask in it's brilliance as you listen to the best there is!!!
