Music reviews of The Dynasty: Roc La Familia 2000

Music Review: Review
Rating: 5 Stars

One of the best rappers of all time created one of the best CDs of all time. Jay-Z went above and beyond anyone's frame of mind when he created The Dynasty. With rumors saying that he does not write his music down, he just says what enters his head, and with his being a key figure in helping out other artists on his label, it was amazing for him to create such a masterpiece. From tracks one through 15, he explained parts of life in ways it could relate to the general public. Some songs on the album can relate to people who just enjoy the finer things in life, and other songs on the album refer to struggles that take place in everyday life where he is from. But all and all this truly is an album that can be in the history of greats.
The first track on the album is the "Intro". The "Intro" is not a basic intro with somebody talking about the album they are about to present; this is serious. He talks about how he himself is viewed today and how he sees himself in today's society. The beat in the song does bring attention towards it although it is not the focal point. During the entire song, someone is in the background crying conveying a tone of sadness. This tone brings a theme to the album that anything can be expected from track to track. The next two songs "Change the Game" and "I Just Want to Love U" conveyed a different tone than the "Intro". These songs had beats that were fast as if a party is taking place. The lyrics of the song are nice to listen to, but the background music brings a great deal of attention towards it.
But the next two songs on the album, "The Streets is Talking" and "This Can't Be Life", changed the album from a musical stand point. When these songs come on, the lyrics of the songs are the focal point. The beats in the song are nice to listen to because of the organization in them, but as the artists in the songs begin to rap; the beats of the song are downplayed as if it was turned down in the background. In the song "The Streets is Talking", some of the lyrics used is "The streets is talking/ people are gossipin/ girls all in your stuff/ what's the cause of it/ I need to know." These lyrics are talking about Jay-Z's feeling of people always trying to be in his business and he wants to know why. The next song, "This Can't Be Life", tells stories from more than one artist of how poverty affected their respective neighborhoods. This song features the artists Beanie Segal from Philadelphia and Scarface from Houston. With Jay-Z being from New York, it is a well rounded mixture of views from all over the United States. The beat is not really an attention grabber so the lyrics of the song are in the forefront. During the entire song, they relate how things are where they are from to everyone listening home. This is one of the best songs that is on the album.
Tracks six, seven, and eight talk about the priorities he felt he and the artists on his label should have. He felt it should be work hard first, work hard second, and after all that work then partying and having fun could take place. So in the songs "Get Your Mind Right Mami", "Stick 2 the Script", and "You, Me, Him, and Her" he conveys these points. The beats and the lyrics in these songs balance out as far grabbing the attention of the viewer. The beats are common with New York style music; not a partying tone but a tone where the lyrics are important as what is heard in the background. In all three of these songs, he gives reference of how he and his co-workers live under these priorties and will never change. After these songs, the next song on the album is "Guilty to Proven Innocent" which explains how he felt at that time. This song was with the artist R. Kelly, which for most people who listen to rap music, know has been accused of many things. With Jay-Z, at this particular time, going through the legal system and viewed by some as being guilty of charges brought against him, this was a great song for two men to explain why they view themselves guilty till proven innocent. The beat of this song was not a really good one but it was not what this song was made for. These two artists made great music in the song regardless of the beat not being that good.
The last part of the album, tracks 10-15, Jay-Z is introducing some of the new artists on his label to the public. Every song has very nice beats, some of the best beats on the album, for the new artists to introduce themselves with. The tracks "Holla", "1-900-Hustla", "The R.O.C.", "Squeeze 1st", and "Soon You'll Understand", which are tracks 10-15, are up-tempo good songs that do not tell a story or have a main point that they are talking about. But, these songs do have good music that is great to listen to not to lose the interest of the listener. Some of the new artists featured on these songs are Freeway, Memphis Bleek, and Beanie Segal.
The entire album deals with different beats, tones, and point of views. But the mixture of all these elements makes this one of the best albums created. He entitled the album The Dynasty meaning that his album has evolved into an album that is on top of the industry. Through the lyrics and everything else that went with this album, he has a valid point which makes this album a must have.
