Music Reviews of American GangsterMusic Review: American Wanksta Rating: 2 Stars
another Jay Z album, that sounds like so much of what he has already done before and nothing new/ I think and feel that he is one of the most overrated acts ever. he has one thing in common with Frank Lucas and that is his best material is in coffins. Lucas scored through coffins and Jay Z has gotten his best lyrics over the years through coffins. the Production on here is cool, but again nothing knocks me out. he should hang it up. his flow and lyrical content never changes. his so called concept ain't gonna make him morph into Curtis Mayfield,Isaac Hayes Willie Hutch or Marvin Gaye. this type of concept has happen before and Jay Z doesn't have a original thought to make it work on that level as those guys did. another predictable album.
Music Review: The roc is in the building Rating: 4 Stars
In my opinion, Jay-Z is one of the greatest hip-hop artists of all time. I have every album of his except Kingdom come. I was a little skeptical about his come back but he really stepped it up with this album. His clever lyrics draw you into the 80's world of drugs, money, and the fast life it brings you. If you take the time to listen to the lyrics and not just the beat, you'll find that the album is intelligent and proves that Jay-Z is a lyricists not just a rapper. Only Jay-Z can write a song about Heroine and you feel what the fiend is going through with their addiction. Best songs on the album are: Fallen, Party Life, American Dreaming, Say Hello and I Know. He has mastered his skill and I will be a fan for life.
Music Review: NOT A HIT FACTORY Rating: 2 Stars
Jay-Z has now retired 3 times and he still keeps coming out with CD's. I love Jay-Z but this album is very sub-par. The Bass is too much and the syntheisizer is used to often. His music is way to simple and his flow just doesn't. There is no method to his flow like Kanye and Eminem's There is on hit in Roc Boys. It all just sounds the same. I would like to hear Jay-Z slow it down a bit. I think he makes these songs while bored and throws them on a CD and puts it out. Jay either take more time with tracks or stay retired. The time of LOUD BASS and suppar FLOW is gone. Don't listen to me listen to the numbers because you won't come close to the Junior Albums of 50 and Kanye Not even close.
Music Review: ONE OF THE MOST INCREDIBLE HIP HOP CLASSICS EVER! Rating: 5 Stars
This is a great masterpiece from the " KING of HIP HOP", Jay lyrics were incredibly genius and the production was bananas. With the south running the game, New York in general needed this album. It flows extremely well from beginning to end. I will have to say that this is one of Jigga's most intenseful, vivid and captivating albums. Once again Jay never seems to let me down. For any real hip hop head I am guaranteed you will not be dissapointed. Hov literally killed the game with this one. COP THIS IF YOUR LOOKIN FOR SOME REAL HOT MUSIC! This definitely some of his best work ever recorded next to fellow classics Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint, and Black Album. STRAIGHT FIRE!!!!

What Jay Z needed was an Album Produced by Dr. Dre but instead he got P-Diddy. So what we have here is an album that will soon be forgotten in the Annals of hip-hop history and for good reason.
Jay Z's energy-less raps sound monotonous and listless. The lyrics harp back to Reasonable Doubt but don't match the inspiration of that Album.
The Production is so highly compressed that any rawness is simply faded out. The use of tacky digital keyboard sounds are terrible. The Marvin Gaye track borders on sacrilege.
Sorry but Hip-Hop needs a new leader, someone who is not lured away from reality by the excesses of Hollywood and sycophancy.
