Music reviews of Kiss the Game GoodbyeMusic Review: His "Blood Pressure" was definitely on fire on this CD
Even when they were with Bad Boy, the LOX were one of my favorite groups. The (War) LOX were originally Mase, Jadakiss, Styles and Sheek until Puffy decided that Mase was better suited as a solo artist. "Money, Power, & Respect" was definitely a step in the right direction for their debut CD. They maintained their street style of rap but you can tell that Puffy had put his touches on the CD, especially after seeing the shiny suits in the "If You Think I'm Jiggy" video. After a series of events, the LOX decided that it was best for them to sever all ties with Puffy and started a campaign entitled, "Let The LOX Go" in order to get them signed to Ruff Ryders. It didn't matter what song that the LOX did or was featured on but one of them always stuck out. ( No disrespect to Styles and Sheek). That man was Jadakiss. Anything he is featured on is hot. On their first Ruff Ryder CD, "We Are The Streets", the LOX were able to do what they wanted all along: To have the beats reflect the rhymes. Tracks like "Breathe Easy", "Can I Live", "Wild Out", "Recognize", and "Blood Pressure" were examples of that. Puffy had the right vision for the LOX, but in the long run, they would not have been happy with what Puff was doing, eventhough, he is a smart business man. Once Jadakiss' solo CD was being advertised, people were anxiously awaiting it. He was being featured on songs like "Got It All" w/Eve, "World War III" w/Snoop Dogg, Yung Wun & Scarface, "Bleeding From The Mouth" w/CNN & Styles, and "Back To Life 2001" w/DJ Clue and Mary J. Blige. Eve's "Scorpion" CD dropped a few months later and still no signs of a Jadakiss solo CD was in sight. Then out of nowhere I finally heard "Put Ya Hands Up" on DJ Clue's Heavy Components Part 2. The track was blazin'. It made his CD worth waiting for. The release date kept getting pushed back, but then I started hearing other Jadakiss songs on various mixed CDs as well. Jadakiss is definitely talented and with more of the LOX's CD and other Jadakiss CDs he will definitely wake up folks who may have slept on him all this time. "Kiss The Game Goodbye" is a variety of everything. You get tracks that you are used to hearing from him, a Dirty South collaboration and some west coast sounding songs as well. The CD starts off with the Swizz Beats' produced "Jada's Got A Gun" which takes a parody of Aerosmith's "Janie's Got A Gun" on the chorus. It definitely gets things off to a good start. Next up, is "Show Discipline" w/ Queensbridge's Finest, Nas. You wouldn't expect the two to be able to flow together but Nas does the hook and has a tight verse in between Jadakiss' two verses and fans of both artists will be satisfied with the results. The 2nd single, "Knock Yourself Out" is produced by The Neptunes and it is definitely hot. The Neptunes have a way of bringing the hot sh** these days and this track doesn't disappoint as Jadakiss is talking junk as usual about the females. Other certifide bangers on this CD inlcude "We Gonna Make It" w/Styles, produced by The Alchemist. Many people will say that this should be the next single. The Alchemist just continues to impress me with his production skills. ""None Of Y'all Betta" w/Styles and Sheek, has DJ Premier on the boards and this will remind people of "Recognize", the song on "We Are The Streets". Premier has always displayed his skills with Guru or any other rapper. Jadakiss didn't pull any stops on this CD. "Kiss Is Spittin'" w/Nate Dogg uses the beat from Michael McDonald's "I Keep Forgettin'", just like Warren G did with "Regulate". Jadakiss fans will be impressed with the way he hooked this song up and Nate Dogg does what he does best with Mashonda on the hook. Jadakiss takes a ride down south with the newest Ruff Ryder Fiend, formerly of No Limit, Yung Wun, and Eightball on "What You Ride For". Fiend definitely produced a quality track and Jadakiss finds a way to blend in as well. "Un- Hunh!" w/DMX sounds like a lyrical jab at the Rocafella camp as Jadakiss has "to stop eating red meat because he ate too many Beanie Mac's. The fued between Jadakiss and Beanie Sigel could get ugly eventually. Hopefully, they find a way to call a truce. "Kiss The Game Goodbye" is just as about as good as it can get in the rap game right now. Jadakiss definitely put in the time and effort with his debut and the Ruff Ryders' camp gave him a lot of creative control. If you are a fan of Jada's, you have no excuse to not go and get this CD. It's definitely worth your money and time. Also check for "Livin' The Life" w/Jadakiss, Prodigy & Butch Cassidy on Violator 2 and "Hate In Ya Blood" w/JD, Jadakiss & Freeway on Jermaine Dupri's upcoming CD.
