Music Review: Not Bad
Rating: 4 Stars
This album was where Ja was at his peak, making songs with ease. On this album are the hits: I'm Real, Always On Time, Down A$$ B*tch, and Livin' It Up. I personally think this is a step down from his first two albums (Venni Vetti Vicci, Rule 3:36) but still not bad.
Track for track:
"Pain Is Love (Skit)" cool way to start the album, this intro has sirens and church bells ringing in the background, i think this symbolizes the paths he must choose from in life, he sings that his pain is his love, and how he's crying everyone's tears, and that he should open his eyes to the big world.
"Dial M for Murder" Sort of pointless song saying claiming Murder Inc's surperiority, not bad lyrically just sort of short, could be longer, sort of dangerous background beat to it. Not bad, but not exactly that great either.
"Livin' It Up" good dance song one of the hits off of this album, they use a Stevie Wonder song in the background, and Case features on the chorus, he has a nice voice, but he should sing more than he does, this song is really all Ja Rule, who is real good lyrically on the verses.
"The Inc." pretty cool song sort of slow, good lyrics by Ja Rule, Black Child, and Cadillac Tah, even Ashanti drops by, and does something relelvant aside from just singing a chorus, like she always does. Cool song, just talking about how gangsta and hard these guys are.
"Always On Time" Sort of a nice song to relax to, this was the song, where everyone started to realize that Ja was on top of his game, in terms of comercial success. As I was saying it's a nice relaxing song, with decent lyrics by Ja, and a cool acoustic guitar in the background, and Ashanti singning a nice chorus.
"Down A$$ B*tch" Again sort of a nice song to relax to again a nice acoustic guitar in the background, and a much slower beat than always On Time, Charli Baltimore sort of kills the song though, as her verse is quite pitiful, but Ja's singing componsates for that.
"Never Again" Cool song, (mostly singing) about how he keeps trying to abandon all his bad habbits, but he keeps coming back to them, sort of a Reggae feel to it, sort of reminds me of "Put It On Me" how Ja Rule sings in this one.
"Worldwide Gangsta" Don't care too much for it, just a whole bunch of rappers exchanging verses, Black Child, Cadillac Tah, and I think James Gotti, and one other unidentified rapper, plus a pretty poor verse by Ja. Disappointing song, just saying how gangsta they are, really this whole "Murderers" thing is getting a little boring.
"Leo (skit)" pointless skit, some Jamaican dude named Leo claims he's phsycic, and he just BS's random callers who call to have there fortune told to them.
"I'm Real" Sort of annoying, kind of reminds me of Ashanti and Fat Joe's "What's Luv" Ja's ok lyrically, but J-Lo's sort of annoying, and so is the background music.
"Smokin' and Ridin'" terrible attempt at being hard here by all performers on this song (Ja, 0-1, and Jodie Mack). Stupid song pretty much only about Smokin' and Ridin'
"X" sort of a song to listen to when your feeling horny ;) all about extasy and sex, not exactly bad, Ja is great lyrically on this one, and so is Missy Elliott, and Tweet has one sexy voice. Pretty nice song
"Big Remo (skit)" Big Remo saying how rich he is, stupid...
"Lost Little Girl" Sort of a sad song tells the tail of a stripper, and how her life has fallen apart and how she could have been so much, Ja's story telling ability shines in this one.
"So Much Pain" Awesome song one of Ja's best ever, his and 2pac's style blend so well together, Ja and Pac both shine lyrically on this one, talking about the struggles and pain of being a gangsta in the ghetto. If pac where still alive this rap game would be a whole lot better. RIP
"Pain Is Love" Basically sort of the same as the last one, just talking about how all the pain he has suffered. Not bad
Buy this album is you are a Ja Rule fan, cuz it's got rap as well as some RNB, not exactly the greatest Ja album but not exactly the worst.
