Music Review: A Transcendent Life Experience.

This is the only album of organ recordings I have heard by Albert Schweitzer. But it is my understanding that he recorded 10 such albums released through Columbia Records. Schweitzer truely bares and reveals his soul in this recording not just through the passion he had for Bach's music and his flowing spiritual performance. But Albert played this music on an organ he designed, crafted, and built by hand in the church of the town he was born, in Alsace Lorraine. A single open microphone was placed near the organ and his performance was recorded live in the empty church on a reel to reel recorder stationed outside the church inside a truck. Dispite the primative means of producing this recording the sound is phenomially rich and full and vibrant. At least the vinal recording I heard was. It was so lush, I could not believe it had been recorded under such circumstances. It is clear that Albert had a passionate Love for the music of Bach and a profound understanding and experience with his music. This is unlike any interpetive performance you may have heard of Bach on the organ before. You are caught up in it, swept away. I used to keep this album playing 24 hrs a day on my stereo. I think it is one of the reasons my Wife divorced me. And if that is not a positive comment on the power of this recital recording. Well I don't know what else is. Albert, you changed my life completely and for the better. God Rest Your Soul. I not only possess a reverence for life. But I possess a reverence for your music as well. Michael J. Pieper.
