Music Review: Irene Worth's Shakespearean Ladies!

The late great American actress, Irene Worth, had spent a lot of time in British theatre to earn the prestigious honorary CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) only a step below honorary Damehood. She had spent thirty years in British theatre before returning to America. She had split her time between London and New York City.

She was appreciated for her genius whether she played the misunderstood grandmother in Neil Simon's Lost in Yonkers or any of the Shakespearean ladies. To do Shakespeare well requires not only talent and skill but a determination to understand and deliver. In this audio compact disc, Irene Worth CBE delivers memorable monologues from Shakespeare's works. Shakespeare also had a balance in all of his plays for his characters who were brought alive by the players or actors and actresses. Before special effects, lavish costumes and scenery, Shakespeare's dialogues and monologues ruled theatre. While some of us like myself don't care for Shakespeare personally, I enjoyed Irene Worth's delivery of the monologues without interaction with another actor.

This compilation might be good for a Shakespeare teacher for high school or for any Shakespearean fan or an Irene Worth fan like myself.
