Music Review: Sister Midnight by Iggy Pop

This is a very cool and unusual CD. The sound quality is extremely good for what appears to be a bootleg CD, and the lineup of the 'band' is top notch. Todd Rundgren's former rhythm section (Tony & Hunt Sales) on bass and drums, a truely gifted guitar player (Ricky Gardiner), and no less than David Bowie on keyboards. They do the four best songs from Raw Power, along with a handful of other Stooges tunes from the first two albums. Not to take anything away from the 'Stooges', but this is a much tighter, much more musical band than the Stooges ever were. Even though they make no attempt to duplicate James Williamson's blazing guitar riffs on 'Search and Destroy', there version really holds together because the band is so good. A real gem of a CD for anyone who liked 'Raw Power'. I highly recommend it! Recorded live in 1977 at the Agora Ballroom in Cleveland some 3 years after the desintegration of the original Stooges, this CD is more than just another version of some of the Stooges best tunes, in some cases, it's a better version.
