Music Review: Brutality and Beauty- Heartwork era Carcass meets AcidRock

This record from 1997 is mos def a modern classic from the (swedish)DeathMetal scene. The songs are eclectic and varied wit something for everyone(for real). Hypocrisys early records were trippy/weird in their own rite but were pretty much in a Morbid Angel/ Immolation/Slayer vein with a more brutal/murky sound. Pretty much no record sounds like Hypocrisys second record OsculumObsceneum.Fast foward a few records later and Hypocrisys fifth record (Final Chapter) is one of the benchmarks of underground metal/music. Imagine the above bands sounds (along with the Swedish Melodic DM sound that Hypocrisy helped create) with generous delic soundscapes ala PinkFloyd/KingCrimson/DepecheMode etc.You can play this record from begin2end in a room full of thrashers, pure DeathMetal fans, hippies, and old ladies and there will be somethin for everyone.
Track One-Inseminated Adoption is a brutal thrasher that alternates slicing riffs with stompin riffs that dont let up. Track 2 is more like a mid90's In Flames song.Track 3 returns wit the punky DeathThrash. But right when u think this record is just gonna alternate/mix those 2 sounds from the first 3 tracks(although I def wouldn't complain if that were the case)Tracks 4 and beyond throw in delic soundscapes that are hypnotic and trippy with really good melodic singin. A couple of the songs are almost 100% melodic singin. This might turn off the "truly brutal" out there but thats their problem. This is music first&foremost. And dont even think "sell out" when these "nice" songs are far from radio friendly esp wit the nonsense rock radio/mtv was mostly pushin when this came out. Bottom line- if ur a fan of 90s DeathMetal but also can enjoy Black Sabbath&Pink Floyd this is a no brainer.
