Music Review: Best execution of this idea that was probably possible

This spoken word audio version of Thompson's classic epitaph to the sixties is phenomenal when you actually consider the manner in which the book is written, the loose but searing symbolism embellished in so many of the concepts represented within in comes across very well on this CD, as well as it could... it creates a great picture in your mind.... true, I'm a fan of Hunter S. Thompson's works (go get the Great Shark Hunt or Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail 72' to expand your knowledge beyond this fictional piece)... the story is admittedly a grand stretch of what actually happened in that foul year of our Lord 1971, a project that started out in Rolling Stone and just ran wild through creative frenzy, and when that and the patchiness of some of the actual tangible action (which is necessary to carry off the right effect as it pertains to the story) are considered, this is a masterful rendition. And, about the movie, I bet not a one of those critics was anywhere close to the historiccal emergence of counterculture or understood exactly what happened at the end of the 60's, and probably didn't even read the book... Johnny Depp did a great job, there were a few things that were kind of smoothed out for the idiocy of the general public (no offense)and some concepts dumbed down or switched around due to complications, but I dare anyone to even come close to considering being able to contain the true power within that story on a roll of film...' okay well I've spoken my mind enough, check this CD out, or even better, BUY THE BOOK!! and see what you think... too bad they changed the printing, it's now the movie poster and the price went up too... used to be this neat orange glossy cover with Ralph Steadman artwork on the front, and was under 6 bucks... *sigh* oh well :)
