Music Review: Wasted money.

While I love Shearer on the Simpsons, in the Christopher Guest movies, and as a member of Spinal Tap & the Folksmen, this CD is just flat-out awful. I heard a clip of "Corn Wine" on the radio, loved it, and rushed out to by the CD. Now I feel like I've been snookered in the same way as when a lame "comedy" movie puts out a trailer that contains all of the funny parts -- except I've spent 2x the cost of a movie ticket. (Almost makes me wish I'd spent the money going to see "Daddy Day Camp" instead, except that movie didn't even have funny moments in the trailer!)
Corn Wine, which the liner notes reveal was written for "A Mighty Wind" but cut -- and compared to the twisted folk gems on that soundtrack, it was a good decision -- is the only track even slightly worth listening to. The others do not work on any level: they are not very clever or interesting as satire; they are not that enjoyable musically; and they are not funny. At all.
Weird Al Yankovic's career is not threatened in the least by this CD. Heck, Mark Russell is more listenable. Avoid.
