Music Review: HANK LOCKLIN'S EARLY RECORDINGS

The three cd Box set came to me in good condition and well on time .Thanks to Amazon.com for that piece of slick marketing.But the CD itself was nothing much from my point of view.It had been made in Portugal,and was of mediocre quality,and the songs themselves were from Locklin's early years,and lacked the punch of his latter day recordings.Hardly any bass on it to speak of,and generally tinny to the ear.But I like it because it is very vintage Locklin and therefore very rare.Anyway thanks for sending me the item promptly,that was great.

Description of Send Me the Pillow You Dream on
(3-CD LP-sized box set with 32-page book) Hank Locklin's early recording years (1948-55), particularly his years with the 4-Star label, have been underappreciated, even misunderstood. Critics have tended to place them in the context of his later Nashville/RCA years, and to see them in the light of his 'Nashville Sound' hits of the late Fifties. The early years were more important and distinctive than that, though. Hank was merging his unique singing style with a jukebox-friendly Texas dance hall sound. This collection gathers all of his early recordings, from his first release on Gold Star and his singles on the Paris, Texas-based Royalty label, through to his prolific stay with 4-Star and Decca. It includes the original versions of such hits as The Same Sweet Girl, Send Me The Pillow You Dream On, Pinball Millionaire and Let Me Be The One, among many others. Many of these sides have never been reissued, while others have only been reissued only with altered sound and added instrumentation. Everything here is in original sound.Country CDs
