Music Review: Absolutely boring

I know I'm going to get flak for this (I've seen all too often that people trash a review because they disagree with it, not because it's "not helpful"), but I'm going to have to give a resounding thumbs-down for this CD.
I picked up this album after trying Shpongle on a whim. That album is pure bliss, let me tell you, and I figured Posford would bring some of that magic here.
I guess it was a bit silly of me to expect something special out of a disc that was labeled so overwhelmingly as the best representation of psychedelic-trance there is. Psy-trance is very uptempo dance music, pure and simple, although it's usually a little more complex than stuff like La Bouche or whatever is hot right now.
Unfortunately, that doesn't make it any less formulaic. All of the acts I've listened to, from X-Dream to Astral Projection to Xenomorph to Growling Mad Scientists to Koxbox to, now, Hallucinogen, seem to operate with a very basic pool of sounds, and they tend to use the same generic 4/4 beats for their music. I've always thought trance must be easy to make, and these psytrance artists certainly don't prove me wrong.
You can set your watch by the time signatures of these tracks. This is music at its cheapest, most formulaic "best." I fail to see why people hype this up as the second coming, considering that Twisted is only one or two degrees removed from EBM ("industrial dance" music), and is a close cousin of mainstream dance, as well.
My review is a warning to those who are looking to try psy-trance, thinking it's the next best thing. It's not. It's overhyped dance music. If that's what you're looking for, then this is right up your alley. If you're looking for something intelligent to listen to, try Posford's better effort: Shpongle.
