Music Review: Excellent album!!!

EDIT: After looking over all the listed tracks, I've noticed there are a few new additions after the apparently dumbed down version I purchased. The NEW Deluxe edition has an additional remix of El Manana (TTC Remix), and the Standard version has a live performance of Hong Kong at the Manchester Opera House. However, purchase with care as I have noticed Amazon can tend to mix up orders, and you may receive an older version of the CD which does not have these new additions.
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
D-Sides, the Gorillaz new album of B-sides and remixes, doesn't leave much room for improvement. For a fan of Gorillaz, it's hard to be disappointed with this album, as it has only a very few weak tracks and the overall quality is excellent. Compared to the other Gorillaz albums, it does well. It isn't up to snuff against the original album or Demon Days (obviously, it's a B-side), but it fits in exceptionally well in the remix catalog. Although I think I still prefer Laika Come Home the best of the Gorillaz remix albums, this one definitely outperforms G-sides.
While the production of some of the tracks isn't up to the standard of Demon Days, it seems that most of these were left off simply because they didn't meet the central aesthetic despite being excellent songs in their own right. There's room for improvement, and nearly all of the tracks could have benefited from the attentions of Danger Mouse, but they came out okay anyway.
Here are some brief descriptions of my favorite tracks:
68 State- a nice instrumental track in which the only caveat is that it's a little repetitive;some attention from Danger Mouse would have made it a 5-star track. It will remind die-hard gorillaz fans a bit of 'Faust' from G-sides. 4 stars.
Hongkongaton- This is the only track on D-sides to feature Danger Mouse, and it shows. It has a playful, lo-fi vibe and a beat that uses samples of kids' raygun toys. 5 stars.
We Are Happy Landfill- This track is my personal favorite from D-sides. It conjures up an image of a junkyard jam session with improvised instruments and secondhand equipment. My personal favorite. 5 stars.
Hong Kong-This track really isn't in the vein of Gorillaz so much as Damon Albarn's other project 'The Good The Bad & The Queen'. It's still a nice, rich, soulful track, however, and deserves 4 stars.
Spitting Out the Demons- A really great little groove that almost sounds as if it came off of Laika Come Home. It's one of my favorites, and the only thing that could have made it better is if it had a little love from Danger Mouse. 5 stars.
Stop the Dams- This track has a melancholy vibe that really works for it, with nice horns and percussion. It also has a great little verse from a guy that sounds like he's a mad scientist. 5 stars.
As far as the Remix album, there are some pretty good ones and some that are completely unnecessary in my opinion. I LOVE the Kids With Guns (Jamie T's Turns to Monsters Mix), the Dare DFA Remix, the Dirty Harry(Chinese New Year Mix), the Kids With Guns (Quiet Village Mix), and the El Manana (Metronomy Mix). Aside from these, the rest feel a little redundant. The Remix album has 3 remixes each of Kids with Guns and Dare, and I think it would be better served by offering a little bit more variety.
But still, this album is worth $20 to any fan of Gorillaz, and the Delux version is well worth the extra $5 to any die-hard fan.
