Music Review: Another Fantastic Release

After four long years, God Forbid have once again returned with another amazingly blistering melodic thrash metal assault with their latest release Earthsblood. This new album just rips, shreds and kills everything in it's path and never even lets up, it's just fantastic. I've been a big fan of God Forbid ever since I first listened to Gone Forever (2004) and it really blew me out of my seat. The following release IV: Constitution of Treason (2005) was an even more better album and it showed the band growing and evolving musically. These guys are definately one of the best bands in metal today, they just continue to get better and grow with each album, and this new album proves that. Everything on Earthsblood is just amazing. The lyrics are fantastic, and of course everybody is in top form here. Byron Davis's vocals are outstanding, his screams are brutal, nasty and vicious and his clean melodic singing is awesome as well. Brother Doc and Dallas Coyle's dual guitarwork is absolutely amazing throughout here. The riffs are ferocious, sick and crushing, and the solos are ripping and amazing as always. The rhythm section of bassist John Outcalt and drummer Corey Pierce is just absolutely punishing and unrelenting throughout, especially with Corey's drumming which is just awesome, and he really rips on the double bass like a mad man. This album is so full of huge blistering highlights on here including "War of Attrition" which is my personal favorite that features some awesome death metal style grooves as well as vicious screams, heavy scorching riffs and ripping double bass drumwork. "Empire of the Gun" is anohter big highlight that features a nice ripping solo along with awesome chugging riffage, hard, hefty pounding drums and more great vocals to boot. I also like "The Rain" and "Shallow" (the latter mentioned song is highlighted by a brutally mean opening mid-paced riff assault and then around 2:35, the song turns into a menacing in your face thrashing onslaught, and we also have a pair of great solos by Peter Joseph and Patrick Pintavalle from The Absence). Another favorite of mine "Walk Alone" is highlighted by more excellent riffage, drumming and vocals, as well as some more great solo sections including an awesome melodic solo section near the end. The title track "Earthsblood" and "Gaia (The Vultures)" are both beautifully crafted epics with the former track featuring more great solo breaks including an awesome guest solo by Darkest Hour lead shredder Kris Norris. Overall, Earthsblood is another fantastic offering from God Forbid, and it's also one of my favorite new albums of 2009 as well. It proves that God Forbid just keep getting better and better with every album, you just know what they're going to come up with next. I highly recommend this album to fans of God Forbid, metal, thrash metal, metalcore, and even melodic death metal as well. Buy it now!!
