Music Review: The worst Palestrina interpretation -ever-

This CD seemed interesting at first sight, offering both the Missa l'homme arme and one of Palestrina's best-loved pieces, the Sicut Cervus motet. Given the price I wasn't necessarily expecting to be swept off my feet, but in fact I was --- the wrong way. Not only is the singing approximative and only occasionally on-key, but there is an *organ accompaniment* to all the pieces!
To make it clear: this organ does not belong in the pieces as Palestrina wrote them. I'll take a wild guess and state that this probably was not a misguided attempt to embellish Palestrina's music, but rather a desperate effort to produce something of vaguely listenable quality. Of course the accompaniment makes everything sound like mush and obscures much of the singing, but given the little that can be heard of the latter this may not actually be a bad thing.
I am usually a fan of the Naxos label (their offerings from the Oxford Camerata are usually excellent), but this CD leaves me wondering how they select their products. I'll certainly be more careful buying from them in the future.
