Music Review: Bravissimo!

This is an amazing disc, and by far one of the best bassist CD's ever released. McTier's interpretation of Bottesini is without peer, especially "Romanza Patetica" - the most sensitive and nuance filled interpretation I've ever heard.His choice of pieces is also interesting, including Rossini's "Une Larme pour Basse" - a simple and understated piece overlooked by virtuosos in search of fast and/or high register playing. Unless you're looking for a disc with McTier's take on the most popular virtuoso showpieces, you will not be disappointed with this. It's a well thought out and executed program of well and lesser known works.
