Music Review: Unique and fascinating!

This recording represents a unique "peephole" (not a window) on the past, perhaps more because of the sound technology at the time, than any limits on his voice. It must've been rather daunting for him to use this new medium;--he sounds a bit nervous on the earlier recording than two years later.
People who were acquainted with his singing praised his talents highly, which may mean these recordings (and the technology) didn't show his abilities accurately. It's an interesting, touching sound that is no more, and a vocal style that has long passed.
(Someone once wrote that we look to Italy as the Madonna of song, and the castrati provided the halo).
