Music Review: Ginuwine - A Man's Thoughts

It's been a long wait for this album. Back in 05, G released Back II Da Basics, and commercially the album flopped, especially compared to The Senior, The Life, and 100% Ginuwine. But content wise, BIIDB wasnt that bad, as it had some pretty good songs, it just didnt have any hit singles which prevented the album from being as big as it could have been. But after BIIDB, G left the music scene for a while without giving us any new music for about four years. Some people speculated that he might have retired from the music biz, but towards the end of 08, promotion for A Man's Thoughts started, and alot of new music started to make its way to the internet indicating that he was making a comeback. And i think its honestly a good thing that Ginuwine took off four years to record this album, because his last three albums didnt really live up to expectations content wise, so this gave him alot of time to really record some good music instead of rushing an album out. In an interview on youtube, Ginuwine stated he recored 43 songs for this album. Although alot of those tracks ended up being cut from the tracklisting, including some that probably should have been added to the album like the racy slow jam "Alarm", but the songs sounded alot fresher and more polished, so the anticipation for this album was set pretty high. And in early 09 he released his first official single from the album, the ballad about getting another shot at love with a significant other, "Last Chance", which is big single for G, especially considering its his first single to do anything on the charts since "In Those Jeans" in 03. But the single just bangs with its B-Cox production. But to me, and i am a big G fan, and i have been for while, i can honestly say that i think this is his best album since 100%. Ginuwine hasnt had an album since than that actually bangs, until now. The Life & The Senior both were really dissapointing despite have some big hits on there, and Back II Da Basics was cool, but it didnt have any hits, but with A Man's Thoughts we get everything. We get some singles that just bang like "Last Chance" and the surefire hit "Get Involved", where we get to see G, Timbaland, and Missy Elliot all together on one song, which hasnt happened in a while. And the song is one of the gems on the album because it reminds me alot of the Bachelor days and the 100% Ginuwine days, when Timbo, Missy, and G used to callaborate alot. The song is gonna be a club hit, im sure. Along with another potential single in "Trouble", with its very tropical club beat. And "Show Off" is another banging club track, even though i doubt it will be released as a single, but its still a great track. And we get to hear some signature slow jam Ginuwine, in the form of another B-Cox joint, the piano tinged "One Time For Love", and on the more crisp and smooth "Open The Door" Ginuwine just glides over this Oak produced track. Both tracks are gems as well. And we get some mid tempo perfection in "Orchestra", a smooth baby maker produced again by the up and coming Oak,... dont sleep on him, hes gonna be good. And on "Touch Me", Ginuwine gives us another smooth baby maker with a phenominal hook that will have you addicted to this mid tempo track. "Even When I'm Mad" is a classic G track, with its accoustic guitar laced beat and complete with some very thoughtful and sincere lyrics. Overall this album is a big comeback for Ginuwine, its not quite on the classic level, but it falls just short, but it still serves Ginuwine fans with a great album that we had to wait long enough for. BUY IT!
