Music Review: This classic recording of Turandot is for the ages.

Before I start the review of this recording ,I would like to say that I have listened to every recording of Turandot,starting with the old Cetra C-1206 with Gina Cigna,Francesco Merli,Magda Olivero conducted by Franco Ghione in1954,to the last Turandot conducted
By Herbert Von Karajan.I just hope that we can end the dispute which recording of Turandot is the best.
Jussi Bjorling is the best Calaf in all the complete sets ,despite the heroics by Franco Corelli and Luciano Pavarotti.Although,he never sung the role on the stage ,he established his great reputation with the recording of "Nessun dorm a"! in 1944.This recording
Became so famous and a yardstick by which all others are judged,that the great soprano Birgit Nilsson after each performance of
Turandot she participated ,run home ,just to listen again to Bjorling in comparison to what she just has heard.When one will compare Bjorling recording of the complete set ,with recordings of his closest rivals Corelli and Pavarotti ,one will hear his powerful voice beautifully executed with the most beautiful high notes ,free of any strain ,and only a stream of the most musical
Sound ,one can only dream about.I take nothing away from eater Corelli or Pavarotti ,they are also great singers ,but none of them
Can sound so lyrical effortless and beautiful as Jussi Bjorling.Just listen to his "Non piangere Liu"!or "Nessun dorm a"! To the riddle scene or final duet with Birgit Nilsson and you wil know what I mean.
Birgit Nilsson vs. Joan Sutherland: Both great sopranos, but Nilsson has more powerful voice ,and clarity and bite.
Tebaldi and Caballe: Again both great sopranos and both very beautiful.The remaining roles are all in good hands.Major artists ,like Giorgio Tozzi appear as Timur and Mario Sereni as Ping
Erich Leinsdorf conducts the chorus and orchestra of the Rome Opera House with firm hand and loving care.
This Super Audio (Hybrid SACD) is great improvement in sound ,more detailed and with more presence then the previous LIving Stero.This two CD's Set does not supply the Libretto ,which means that you have to buy it elsewhere.
I recommend this recording to every opera buff and to new commer to buy with confidence ,because this performance is a highest
Achievement of vocal splendor ,and will give Avery one a lasting pleasure.
