Music Review: Transformation

This album makes me really feel winter, spring, and the transition between them. January Stars makes me think of being outside in the snow at night, with the stars shining in a stark night sky, and maybe there is a moon. February Sea makes me feel I am sitting at a beach watching the whitecaps, except that instead of hearing the sea I hear the music. Ocean Waves is when I start to feel the transition into spring. I can feel it coming and then at about 4:27 I hear a shift that has been building and is sustained in the rest of that piece. Reflection is one of the most beautiful solo piano pieces I've heard. That makes me feel that spring has arrived and has gently established itself. Rain makes me think that spring rain can be beautiful and blossom/meadow makes me see the flowers. Then Venice dreamer - I can't tell if someone is dreaming about Venice or someone in Venice is having a dream.
The audio samples here can help people decide what they think. I find that George Winston puts both technical skill and feeling into his music, so that one does not overwhelm the other, and these pieces are recorded really well. I am not a production expert but this does not sound dated to me. The piano sounds good and although some parts are 'bright' I don't hear it as too sharp. And I agree with other reviewers that these melodies remind me of poems, with images I can see. It starts with the beauty and starkness of January and ends with a reference to Venice, when spring has fully established itself. I like the progression. My favorite parts are the beginning and the change I hear in the ocean waves segment, and then the reflection piece. It's a kind of meditation.
