Music Reviews of Let It Roll: Songs by George Harrison

Music Review: It's All George
Rating: 5 Stars

Let It Roll: Songs by George Harrison is exactly what it purports to be. It's a beautiful collection of songs by the inimitable former Beatle and it sounds brilliant.
To those who think it isn't enough, they're not listening to what is. What is there is a really good collection of George Harrison music, beautifully remastered and well placed for a balanced and thoroughly enjoyable listening experience.
For the casual listener, it's all about the music. Every song is good, and each has the potential to nudge the merely curious into the category of fan. If I weren't already sold on the guy I'd be looking at all of the originals by now.
The album is really good, the packaging is gorgeous and the liner notes very beautifully express what so many of us love about the music and memory of George Harrison.
Buy it, listen and enjoy. It's just the beginning.

Music Review: WELL done single-disc collection
Rating: 5 Stars

WOW! The remastering is incredible. The track choices flawless, (though I may have included "Handle With Care" for sure, plus "Taxman", "It's All Too Much", and/or "I Need You"). Nice job including "This Is Love", one of my top-5 George tracks of all time. "Here Comes The Sun" will always be #1 for me, a live version is included here.

The booklet is well-done as well. The liner notes, and especially the close-ups of the guitar and mixing board are some of the coolest still-life photos I've seen.

Great package that delivers the familiar tracks, some nuggets that were somewhat difficult to score (Cheer Down), and some live versions, all sounding pristne through super remastering.

To go deeper, score LIVE IN JAPAN, All Things Must Pass, Cloud Nine, Traveling Wilburys Vol.1, and The Concert For George DVD.

Music Review: "Let It Roll"
Rating: 5 Stars

While "Let It Roll," is not a true best of/greatest hit or a complete career-spanning collection---there are too many songs missing for either of those---what it is is a GREAT selection of songs that serve to remind us of just what a great artist George Harrison was. This selection (decided on by George's wife, Olivia) flows beautifully...let it roll...and all the songs fit very niceley together. I love that it is a "complete album" in that the songs are not in chronological order. One just goes with the next and on and on for a great listening experience. George Harrison was, in my opinion, the most inventive, melodic guitarist ever. Period. This collection amply demonstrates that and highlights his song-writing ability as well, just in case people had forgotten about what he did in his life and the music he created.

Music Review: Difficult Line To Walk
Rating: 5 Stars

I wish this had been a double album but I believe there will be a volume 2 of George Harrison songs. I'm happy for the wonderfully remastered songs on this album. For the critics, I think it should be considered just how hard it must have been to chose the songs on this album. First of all the work spanned 35 years of George's life. Secondly, what audience was the album meant for- younger fans who have not been exposed to the depth and beauty of George's music and need an overview to start out or to long time fans? I think they tried to strike a balance and with that in mind, I do not think this is a bad job. The choice of songs was a difficult line to walk. And Critics, don't forget- this won't be the last George Harrison record- you can count on that. The response to this album has been overwhelming.

Music Review: Pleasing collection of Harrison tunes
Rating: 4 Stars

This is a very pleasing collection of George Harrison tunes, although I agree with other comments that some other favorites such as "Apple Scruffs", "Handle With Care", "If Not for You", and a few others should have been included. This would have made a nice 2 cd set similiar to the marketing concept of Paul McCartney's "Wingspan" collection. The nice packaging and booklet also enhance the cd.

I do find it a bit "jarring" that the songs aren't arranged chronologically as that documents the artistic progression of an artist (I have the same complaint about the Rolling Stones "Forty Licks" and the CSN greatest hits cd).

If you're a George Harrison fan you will defintely enjoy the cd, although it might make you wish for a little bit more. I would rate the collection 4.5 overall.
