Music Review: a bit uneven, but some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard

Everyone hearing the current discussion about illegal immigration should spend time seriously listening to "Twisting in the Wind" - a deep and evocative examination of the humiliation and demoralization of people caught in this issue with words that are JUST RIGHT - they bring emotion, identity and perspective to an important issue - it is also a beautiful song. I can listen to "Waiting" over and over, catching new images, feeling new reactions, alternately crying and soaring - it may be the most beautiful song I have ever heard, musically and lyrically. Try it with earbuds and quality sound - the layers of music and images are stunning. 'Waiting' and "Here Tonight" are truly rare and beautiful songs of great depth, and "So Happy" is a wonderful relief and hope in friendship, even when difficult. However, some of the other songs are a little less memorable. I have mixed feeling about "Shining Thing" - the words are startling in vivid and unusual poetry and imagery, but the instrumentation is too heavy and noisy for the ethereal words, and it is rather repetitive and tiresome - with words like that, it really could have been so much better. "Soul Kiss" is a sweet song, but is a little too much a pop-radio type song. 'First Day of Spring' is a great song, of hope and renewal, 'Oh how happy' is a strong, upbeat remake of the old Motown song, you can't help but smile and believe while 'Grace' yanks at your gut with pain, loss, and bewilderment. Alot of feelings here, alot of great music, alot of insight and things to think about. About as good as it gets.
