Music Reviews of Songs for Swingin LoversMusic Review: Swing this Baby! Rating: 5 Stars
Probably my favourite Sinatra's album. Released in 1956. Arrangements are done by Nelson Riddle and songs are fabulous. Here you can hear such great songs like on of his biggest hit, Cole Porter's I've Got You Under My Skin, Gershwin brothers' Love Is Here To Stay,...Pennies From Heaven was a big hit for Louis Prima, Anything Goes (another Porter's composition) for Ella Fitzgerald,...
This is one of his best albums (and not only for Capitol Records).
So, lay down and enjoy this fabulous set.
Music Review: The Swingin'-est, BABY! Rating: 5 Stars
My fiance and I bought this cd for the one and only swingin' version of "Love Is Here To Stay" to be used as our first dance at our wedding. Now we listen to it every day for the hoppin' syncopation that only Frankie can provide. This is an interesting era for Frank-he was still smooth, but well on his way to the old man with attitude that he later became. The remaster is superb and the orchestration is truly something to cherish, since nobody seems to know how to do it anymore.
Music Review: Brilliant Rating: 5 Stars
If you are wondering what the big deal is about Sinatra, this album, along with a few of the other Capitol-era records, is the answer. Great arrangements and singing that took the American Songbook to places it has never gone before or afterward. Sinatra fleshes them out and makes them his own. "I've Got You Under My Skin" is one of the great recordings of the century, but you could say that about just about any of the songs on this one.
Music Review: Hat on the Cover Rating: 4 Stars
Someone once told me that the best way to decide whether to buy a particular Sinatra album was to see if he was wearing a hat on the cover. This one qualified and I bought it. I enjoy listening to it. In particular, I like the versions of You Make Me Feel So Fine and Anytning Goes. Sinatra is in fine form throughout the album and the arrangemnts are a lot of fun. This is a great album to put on when you are having friends over for cocktails.
Music Review: WARNING: May cause children! Rating: 5 Stars
You know, if so much material these days is coming out with explicit lyric warnings, why not put reproductive warnings on Frank Sinatra's music? Frank claims that the "wee small hours" album is partially responsible for the baby boom era, I think this one was a major contributor too. Listening to these gems always gets me in a good mood, an ever-pleasant reminder that any season is a good reason for makin' whoopee.
