Music Review: "Let's Face The Music And Dance"

What's not to love about this CD when two of my all-time favorite artists, Frank Sinatra and Johnny Mandel, are in the picture?
Yes, picture the legendary Chairman in full control of all the resources of his vocal art interpreting a dozen of remarkable songs with the superb chart arrangements and orchestrations of a brilliant arranger/composer/conductor and a living legend, Johnny Mandel. And the result is one of the finest Sinatra recordings of all-time and one of my very favorites, "Ring A-Ding Ding." Just listen and "face the music and dance" to your heart's delight if you may!
Every song from the first and title track "Ring A-Ding Ding" to the last "I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm" promises an awesome, highly-spirited and absolutely enjoyable listening experience. Who wouldn't be moved listening to Frank Sinatra in his most exuberant moods with the most highly-spirited arrangements by Johnny Mandel? With arrangements so flawlessly and brilliantly orchestrated, and Sinatra's sublime vocals, your ears will be begging for repeated listens.
There's no denying that Mr. Mandel is not only one of the best Sinatra arrangers of all-time, but for a great number of famous and talented singers as well. He's still very much around as I have just listened to his live interview with John Pizzarelli at a weekly syndicated radio show, "Radio Deluxe with John Pizzarelli." His beautiful music and his most remarkable works were featured in the show, to mention a few, two songs from this CD -- the title track "Ring A-Ding Ding" and "The Coffee Song."
Likewise, some of the songs from this CD were featured at Sirius Radio's "Nancy For Frank" hosted by the legendary Chairman's celebrated daughter, Nancy Sinatra during one of its earliest broadcasts sometime in June this year in the segment where they pay tribute to the brilliant works of Sinatra arrangers, and Johnny Mandel's works in this album are some of the highlights on that particular show.
My highlights include "You And The Night And The Music." "Let's Fall In Love," "I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm," "In The Still of The Night," "You'd Be So Easy To Love," "A Fine Romance," "A Foggy Day" and of course Irving Berlin's "Let's Face The Music And Dance."

Recorded at a time when he was running the Rat Pack, it's no coincidence that the album is named after one of his favorite phrases of the era. Ring-a-Ding Ding perfectly captures the atmosphere of Sinatra in 1961, but it is a joy and completely fascinating to listen to at any time, in any era. FEATURES TWO BONUS TRACKS!This 1961 album was Sinatra's first release for his own label, Reprise. Not coincidentally, there's an obvious air of exultation running throughout the entire record. Sinatra is in impeccable voice as he swaggers through Johnny Mandel's arrangements with confidence to spare, delivering unforgettable versions of "A Foggy Day," "When I Take My Sugar to Tea," "Let's Face the Music and Dance" and "I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm." This is prime "Rat Pack"-era Sinatra, as rakish as the tilt of his hat on the album's cover.
