Music Review: Great album...Frank is in fine form; Rich Gilbert rocks!
Rating: 4 Stars
It's nice to hear a little of the old aggression returning to Mr. Thompson's work again, with vocal work and angular compositions vaguely reminiscent of the Pixies' early days. The direct-to-two-track recording seems to work well in capturing the live, loud sound we know and love so much. My favorite tracks so far are "I Want Rock And Roll", "I Switched You" and "Skeleton Man", perhaps because the unmistakable guitar madness of Rich Gilbert is so apparent. A fixture in the Boston music scene for years (going waaaay back to Human Sexual Response), I have had the pleasure of hearing time and again Rich's incredible playing in bands as diverse as The Zulus (kickass), The Country Bumpkins (my favorite upstairs at the Rat -- ah, The Rat, such memories...), and Concussion Ensemble (loud). I think the pairing of Mssrs. Thompson and Gilbert shall bring about some fine music for years to come!
