Music Review: It hurts to see this

The 'sonically' restored "duet"' track just goes so counter to the here-and-now no special effects trickery that makes Cuban music so special. I own over 1000 Cuban cd's, and find this track so disturbing because it's such a non Cuban thing to do to the music, such a morbid special effect trick that has become so common place in other places (from the King Cole "duet" to those amazingly tacky commercials with dead movie stars mixed with current peddlers) but whose lack in Cuban music has made it such an oasis of musical honesty and beauty in world of mass produced soulless McMusic, maybe the last such artistic realm left in the world to those who value these attributes in all art forms.
The tile of the cd's means "with Bola's permission" well, I really doubt he would have given his permission for such a tacky hatchet job. Bola, who said "soy lo que soy porque soy cubano" (I am what I am because I am Cuban) would probably agree that this is most un-Cuban, and I can't think a greater condemnation I can give to a Cuban song.

Produced by Jose Luis de la Pena (Alejandro Sanz, Miguel Bose) and Jacobo Calderon (Luis Miguel, Amaral, Nino Bravo).Cuba's pianist/vocalist/composer Ignacio Villa (1911-1971), nicknamed Bola de Nieve (Snowball), was that country's combination of Fats Waller, Nat "King" Cole, and Frank Sinatra. He was a hit maker of enduring quality, and he created the jazz influenced Cuban ballad style known as filin (feeling). The Cuban-born, Mexico-based singer Francisco "Pancho" Cespedes, known for his 1997 hit CD Vida Loca, delivers a dancing, yet delicate tribute recording. Buoyed by a fantastic rhythm section featuring Blue Note drummer and pianist Ignacio Berroa and Gonzalo Rubalcaba, and bassist Carlos del Puerto, Cespedes' airy baritone blows a welcome breeze on selections penned and performed by Villa, from "Adios Felicidad (Goodbye Happiness)," to the waltzy "Flor de la Canela (Cinnamon Flower)." Cespedes wrote the suave Count Basie swing-like "Ausencia (absence)," but the CD's zenith is his sonically restored "duet" with Villa on "Drume Negrita (Sleep Little Black Baby)."
