Music Review: Jussi In Stereo

This 1959 recital disc, with orchestra, is an excellent addition for the Jussi-phile. Although in stereo, the sound is distant so the volume has to be turned up. Performances are excellent save for the strange addition of the Lehar. One wonders why he recorded that instead of another Italian aria. However, the voice is magnificent,in every register. The writer of the notes on his Decca Cavalleria Rusticana recording (four excerpts are presented on this disc) stated that he thought he had lost a bit of the upper register. Poppycock! It is all there for us to hear. It would be wonderful if Decca updated this disc with a remastered sound. However, if that's not possible, this will do nicely.
