Music Review: So disappointed...

Don't get me wrong as I am a huge fan of Glen Hansard. I've seen The Frames in concert twice, Swell Season in concert twice, as well as a solo show of his. I previously owned "Dance the Devil", "Set List", "For the Birds" and "The Cost", plus all the Swell Season material. So, I thought buying one of the earlier Frames discs would be rewarding. This album is so lacking in energy and tragically restrained. If you are accustomed to (or prefer) Glen's unbelievable charisma and energy you may likely be as bored and disappointed as I am listening to it. There are a couple of good tracks on here that any Frames fan will recognize, but even those are poor versions of what you will find elsewhere. For instance, the opening track of "Revelate" is a beat slower than what you've heard in their live performances, and "Say It To Me Now" is a total disaster here if your first exposure to it was in "Once". It's obvious The Frames made a colossal leap forward from this disc to the subsequent "Dance the Devil".
Do yourself a favor and buy/download individual tracks unless you want it in your library to complete your Glenn Hansard collection.
